Snails of Cuba! In the end, we found 5 species, including the most endangered and arguably also most beautiful, Polymita sulphurosa. Unfortunately, we also encountered illegal sale of the shells on mountain pass.

Why? Project is on the evolution and conservation of these snails, led by Dr Bernardo Reyes in Cuba and working with colleagues from London zoo, Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

Blennies are one of my favorite macro subjects. There are so many different species and it is really fun looking for their tiny heads peeking out of rocks and corals. This one is a spinyhead blenny spotted in Cuba. I used a snoot to spotlight the tiny blenny while keeping a dark background and foreground.

Cuba's healthcare system, despite decades of US sanctions, remains a global leader in medical innovation and international health solidarity.

The universal, free, accessible, and community-centered system prioritizes equitable access, public health education, and early intervention. Cuba's healthcare approach emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and the integration of medical care and rehabilitation.

This week, #Barbados’s Prime Minister Mia Mottley gave a fiery address to parliament, calling the US stance “unfair and unjustified”.

“We could not get through the pandemic without the Cuban nurses and the Cuban doctors,” she said.

Trinidad and Tobago’s prime minister, Keith Rowley, warned that US interference in #Caribbean healthcare decisions was unacceptable.

Caribbean leaders have hit back at a threat issued by the United States government to cancel visas for anyone working with or supporting Cuban medical facilities, citing allegations of forced labour and claiming these missions “enrich the Cuban regime”.

Cuban medical missions, which provide doctors, nurses and other medical staff as well as medical facilities, are critical to healthcare systems in the Caribbean.

After a flue I'm back to life in La Habana #Cuba. It really is more hardcore than 2 years ago. Center/Vedado, the privileged part, for the first time has regular daily power cuts. There are some starved homeless people. Every 30 meters there's a "private initiative" small market with the same selection, terrible prices (2-3x of EU, exception being pasta and maybe another thing), some vegetables are 3-5x up (while currency went from 200 to 350 to USD/EUR). Rice costs 2€/kg.
