I feel like at some point there's going to have to be a mechanism to migrate to a different instance. I chose this instance essentially at random because mastodon.social was full, but that doesn't mean this is actually the right one for me.
Should I migrate now before I've got too much invested here? What if this instance is removed forever? What if the rules change or the atmosphere becomes toxic? Starting over is as unappealing here as on Twitter.
@anomie I looked at that, and it's not quite the same. That moves MY data in and out, but I'm not guaranteed to have the same handle on another instance, and I certainly wouldn't maintain any followers I managed to accumulate. (Obviously, that's not a problem at the moment. :D)
