This is my first Mastodon foray. I've been advocating for open source, distributed social networking for a while, but don't have the programming ability to make it happen. I hope this does better than diaspora did.

@udi diaspora feels more comfortable in terms of adding videos n stuff, never had any followers in my life, here already two of them, it feels like being jesus for other nerds hanging around here too

to be true I used diaspora more like an archive for private stuff

@exquisitepepper I'm not sure. It just never took off. I think initial teething problems, coupled with Facebook familiarity, kept it from reaching critical mass. I thought that if someone could have written a client that integrated it an Facebook into one interface, it would have allowed people to transition easily, without giving up fb, or having to duplicate their postings.
