This is very interesting, but I'm a bit confused. How does find account avatars for incoming email accounts? The sender of the email (see the screenshot below) is not in my contact list, so the avatar couldn't be coming from my side.

Do we have a federated standard for account avatars? Could you please help, @mjog ?

@ashkyd @mjog Oh I forgot about . So Geary automatically fetches avatars from gravatar.com. Couldn't it be a privacy concern then? While I find this feature nice and practical, I'd appreciated it if there was an option to disable it.

@masoud @ashkyd Yep it's Gravatar. We have a few bugs open about this, including support for libravatar, a libre alternative: bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cg

@ashkyd @masoud I appreciate the concern about tracking, but it's no worse than (e.g.) the web bug in every GMail message. Geary really should provide a way of blocking these in general.

@mjog @ashkyd thanks for your input and for the link to the bug :) I should say that I really like your approach of making opinionated decisions about functionality to keep the preferences clean, while at the same time pushing for libre/federated solutions and alternatives.
