This is the kind of thing I would have done research on when I was in academia doing research on statistical physics and non-equilibrium phenomena.
@masoud Yes! We were walking around the neighborhood collecting all the really interesting hailstones, they were super-cool (and splashing in cold puddles and enjoying the brilliant post-storm light)! We were all really curious about these hailstones with smooth surfaces but with packed spheres inside.
