Periodic reminder: I'm switching my main Mastodon activity to Mammouth.cafe:

Adjust your reality accordingly.
@dredmorbius And just to be clear, there seems to be a common practice of signaling a main profile with โญ next to one's name, while using a โ for profiles that are not one's primary. Right?
@gideonro @dredmorbius Meh.
I chose the โญ because with my display name, there weren't enough characters left over for any of the cool emoji.
When I fired up a second instance, I had the same conundrum, thought that a distinction might be helpful, and went with what was initially my second choice, the โ.
Which is a nose-thumbing at the original โ "verified" meme which was popular in ancient times, about three weeks ago.
@dredmorbius @dredmorbius Well, I'm going to follow your lead.
Done.
@dredmorbius @dredmorbius @gideonro This is a particularly interesting conversation. Are both of you using the web interface or an app?
@dredmorbius @Jawoodward @dredmorbius I'm using the web right now, but sometimes use Tusky.
@gideonro @dredmorbius @dredmorbius I too use Tusky. I can't figure out how to get it to handle more than one instance, though, without logging out.
@Jawoodward @gideonro @dredmorbius My understanding is that Tusky doesn't do that, for now. I don't use it, though I've seen others mention this.
@dredmorbius @Jawoodward @gideonro @dredmorbius Time to #giveupandusemultipleapps then? (I have two accounts, one in Tusky, the other in Mobile Chrome. At times I feel the latter works better).
@oliof @dredmorbius @gideonro @dredmorbius @cynix I don't know. tabbing in Chrome mobile is okay, but I already have too many of them open. I'm a #tabhoarder. it's a problem. I know.
@Jawoodward @oliof @dredmorbius @gideonro @cynix Tabbing in Chrome mobile is broken beyond motherfucking belief.
I have no way of managing them, can see at most five at at time, they close and navigate in precisely the wrong directions, and it takes, literally and I've timed this, seven minutes to drag-and-hold scroll across the tabset.
That might mean ... 2100 tabs, if they scroll at the rate of 5/s.
@cynix @gideonro @dredmorbius @oliof @Jawoodward Or maybe it's 1050 if the scroll rate is only half that.
But that's actually one of my points: *** THERE'S NOT EVEN A MOTHERFUCKING COUNT OF THE MOTHERFUCKING TABS ***
(On Firefox, the count gives out after 99. I rarely see a count, though I can at least view about 20 at a time, and scroll through a few hundreds in a matter of seconds.)
@cynix @gideonro @dredmorbius @oliof @Jawoodward And yeah: if you make a specific type of use nonviable, well ... reasonable people won't do that.
@cynix @gideonro @dredmorbius @oliof @Jawoodward I never claimed to be reasonable.
@Jawoodward @oliof @dredmorbius @gideonro @dredmorbius no, tab hoarding isn't bad. OK, you're not a programmer, but anyway. Here's a paper: http://clivethompson.net/2016/09/27/on-the-cognitive-value-of-having-a-bazillion-tabs-open-on-your-browser/
